【Message to foreign tourists】
It's already early, and it's already July from tomorrow.
This year as well, we have set up bamboo and strips of paper for Tanabata decorations!
Since it was just installed today, it is not yet colorful, but we would like to put everyone's wishes on strips of paper and create colorful Tanabata decorations for Tanabata on July 7th.
I (Midoriman) am responsible for the Tanabata decorations and hold the ``takiage'' ceremony every year after Tanabata.
Now, did you know why strips of paper are tied to bamboo?
Bamboo grows very quickly (because it's a plant, it's called growth, not growth), and according to the Forestry Agency website, Japanese Madake mushrooms have been recorded to grow as much as 121cm in one day.
Using the momentum of the bamboo that stretches straight toward the sky, we tie strips of paper together with our wishes, ``May our wishes reach the heavens.''
By the way, the ``Tanabata Legend'' of Orihime and Hikoboshi is a story from the lunar calendar.
Tanabata in the lunar calendar refers to the Obon season, and when you look directly overhead on July 7th (around 8pm) you will see the constellation Corusta Corusta without Orihime or Hikoboshi.
It is beautiful like a crown and is my favorite constellation.
On July 7th, Orihime and Hikoboshi are in the eastern sky.
If you are staying at our hotel, you can see Orihime (Vega) when looking at the eastern sky (at an angle of about 70 degrees) towards the lake (facing the balcony).
Once you find Orihime, look down (at an angle of about 45 degrees) and you'll see Hikoboshi (Altair).
The Milky Way flows between Orihime and Hikoboshi in the direction of the arrow, and the constellation Cygnus (Deneb) appears to be flying in the direction of the arrow (Reference: How to find the Summer Triangle, Gunma Observatory)
This is the rainy season, so you won't be able to see Orihime and Hikoboshi, the main characters of the Tanabata story, but don't worry if you miss it, Obon is the time when the original Tanabata legend is said to be, so you can see them directly above.
When I lay down on my back outside around 8pm during Obon, there was an extremely bright star directly above me.
That star is Orihime (Vega), and I think it's very easy to understand if you start with Orihime.
There will also be a "Perseid Meteor Shower Observation Party" on August 12th, so why not make a wish on a star this year?
